For years, architect and doctoral student Oskar Zieta and scientist Philipp Dohmen have been researching their technology, known as FIDU (Free Internal Pressure Reshaping). They are especially successful with it because they brought this process into the shape of furniture and objects. For the London Design Festival they built an installation called ‘Blow and Roll’ which is made of large-scale steel elements of different lengths, some being up to 20 metres long, in the garden of the V&A. The flat steel elements consist of 2 metal strips which are placed on top of each other and welded around all 4 sides. Imagine the construction of a zip-lock bag. These strips, wound around drums, were brought to the garden, inflated with air and unrolled to create the final installation
