alejandro aravena: sorry, but this is not comfortable

Maastricht

This design is a simple idea. It’s a device used by the nomadic Ayoreo indians of Paraguay and interpreted by Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena for Vitra.

Sometimes simple things become something unexpected. ‘Chairless‘, a woven strap that slips around your knees and back while you’re sitting on the floor, is comfortless. It was simply not possible to find the right position and to relax.

At the end we decide that even the cheapest Vita chair (19,90 Euros) doesn’t satisfy us. It is definitely more comfortable to sit on the floor without ‘Chairless’.

Model with the Vitra chair: Theda Schoppe
