jurgen bey: a great design that’s rotten

Amsterdam

For some people this bench is old news, but for me it’s still a good example of what people would call Dutch Design. The tree trunk bench by Rotterdam-based designer Jurgen Bey consists of a real tree trunk and 3 bronze casts of chair backs which form a seating possibility.

I saw the tree trunk bench yesterday at the droog store, which represents ‘simplicity and dry humor of objects’. Jurgen Bey’s bench stands outside in the courtyard and is obviously already rotten. But it still has the charm it had when it was launched in 1999.
