Phoenix by Wendell Castle
2006
Stained Walnut with oil finish
One-Off
I should thank the Carpenters Workshop Gallery for being a real white cube. Most of the time I get annoyed when I arrive at exhibitions where the actual designs are barely noticed because of the distracting presentation. The pictures I took are mostly useless. But here they come out like I always wanted.
Currently the gallery shows a selection of black designs. One of them is Wendell Castle‘s Phoenix, a useable object which consists of a seating possibility and a table. My father-in-law commented that it looks like a camel. Or an elephant’s food poking up in the air. Funny what people see in things.
