düsseldorf. germany. fashion again. yesterday I was at the fashion show from the amd – academy fashion & design. the show was at the cpd. unfortunately we came too late ( damn, I hate rush hours in big cities ) and were far away from the scene. in fact, we had to stand. and what also means that the photos are not from the first row or second row, either. here are the favourites. the men’s wear was which we liked a lot. ( aka the men we liked to watch )

I spotted that on the way out of the fair – isn’t that patent-registered?

Düsseldorf. Germany. the CPD is going on. another fashion fair. rosner invited the fashion scene to celebrate 40 years of being in the biz. the location was an old factory building, the topic was ‘chic jail’.

to summarise: to me this was another event about appearance. lot’s of people who’s main interest is to appear as somebody they are not. so the photos you see show what I liked about the show. and on purpose there are not so many people on the pictures:

Amsterdam. Netherlands. The Fashion Week is going on. On the ouderzijds achterburgwal (street name) in the city centre you can buy the latest couture party dress in the red light district of Amsterdam. Some of the former prostitution establishments are temporarily available for sixteen fashion designers. It’s a cultural clash of fashion and prostitution, they say.
In one shop front window a ‘women’ (rather a girl) in garish lingerie is advertising her body to passers-by and in the next front window you find one of the hippest designers the dutch fashion avantgarde has thesedays – a brave performance somehow, I must admit.
But possibly it was me who was the bravest on that day. 5 to 10 prostitutes yelled at me and some more showed me their middlefingers (no photos of that) . I guess they don’t like it when people take pictures of them… just for you guys, just for you.

That will get a little bit messy. I’ve still got some cool stories to tell from both Cologne and Amsterdam. Here’s one from the IMM Cologne. The [d³] contest attracts 450 product submissions every year. Entrants must be students or recent graduates who completed their studies no longer than three years ago. This year there were 35 prototypes on display. Here are three of them.

This year, first place went to raphael von allmen from switzerland for his chair with flexible backrest. Raphael studied at ECAL University of art and design Lausanne. I like his chair and the fact that he speaks polish (learned it because of his girlfriend).

jordi canudas

Jordi Canudas is born in Barcelona but works and lives in London. His sofa is a piece of interactive Architecture. A wall and a place to sit or to lounge. Movement, sound and touch hint at what might be happening on the other side.

aylin kayser & christian metzner

The two Germans developed a wax lamp which melts when it is used… good design and marketing.
