this weekend is all about dutch design. I am going to eindhoven to spend some time with rose etherington from dezeen and robert andriessen from designguide.tv. a quote from robert: ‘we go for the freebies’. yes, we like the free nibbles and refreshments.

‘three yet one’ is an exhibition by london-based parallel projects. the idea was to show how the media affects our understanding of design. a writer and a photographer were invited to demonstrate the work from their personal point of view. the text and the image were displayed during the london design festival as an addition to the product.
this is a clever idea which dezeen shows in detail. I just present my usual suspects without showing the picture + text of the invited writer and a photographer.

london-based gallery fumi placed a competition this year with two design schools, rca london and ecal lausanne/haute école d’art et de design.
the intention was to design a mirror, defined in the brief as ‘an object which enables reflection’. one of the winners was anurag etchepareborda, ma product design student at ecal.

london-based creativ consultancy studio toogood has designed an installation called ‘geology rocks’ in the entrance of the dock, an exhibition of creative talent curated by tom dixon. the studio was inspired by rock formations. the final outcome is a sculptural ceiling in stretched gold PVC by barrisol.

british designer lee broom has launched his new furniture collection called ‘heritage boy’. It is lee’s 3rd year showing at the london design festival. he was inspired by british manufacturing techniques which he cleverly applied in his 8 new pieces. here are 3 of them.

‘comic-like frivolity’ (with lots of boobs) is how I would describe ‘american chateau’, a showcase of work by nienke klunder and jaime hayon which opened at spring projects – spring house earlier this month. it’s all about the sausages.

designing lightning is a big thing within the designers. the victoria and albert museum in london spotted that trend and opened an exhibition called ‘in praise of shadows’ last monday during london design festival.
